Foo Dog - Actually, guardian stone lions are often found in front of great mansions in China. But because China has no native lions, so much of the fierceness of lions was reimagined. So when Westerners visited China and saw these fierce creatures, they mistook them for dogs! Hence the name of foo dogs. The left dog, traditionally female, rests her paw on a playful cub, symbolizing the protection of the people inside and the nurturing of the family lineage.
